So, now that you understand what is fitness and you have decided you want to make it part of your life; How do you start? Is there a secret formula to succeed during your personal fitness journey?
Here are some tips that are going to help you start your fitness journey and achieve the results you’re looking for:
Write an Specific Goal.
-You’re starting something new, and I know you have the desire to change and improve your physical condition. Desire alone is not going to help you achieve what do you want, so start by making that desire into a specific goal.
-Setting a goal is crucial to your success. It enables you to have a clear, written vision of what you want to achieve. Many people create a common goal such as “losing weight” or wanting to “look better”. You can use the table below to translate your common goal into a more specific goal, giving you a clearer sense of direction:

Write down why is it important for you to achieve that specific goal you defined in step 1.
It is so important to know your WHY, why do you want to be fit? Why do you want to be healthier? The answers might seem obvious, but if you take the time to write your goals and why are they important for you, you will develop a sense of commitment and clarity knowing exactly what you want and why do you want it.
It will also help you during hard times of your journey to stay focused and on track because you know the reason why you’re doing it.
Design a Plan
Based on your goal, design a specific plan to achieve it.
For example, on the previous table, if your specific goal is to decrease body fat % start writing all the details:
- How much body fat do you want to decrease, 5%, 10% or more?
- Do you know your current body fat levels?
- Which exercise and nutrition plan can you follow to help you achieve this?
- Which is your deadline to achieve this goal?
This plan should be easy to follow and understand, if you start with too many things all at once you might feel overwhelmed or not ready to do it all that.
That’s why it is important to keep the plan simple and made according to your current fitness level, then eventually you can add more things that will help you get the results you want.
If you are totally new to fitness and you have no idea how to design a specific plan to achieve your goal, consider hiring a certified fitness professional that can help you with that.

Follow the plan
Once you have a great plan set up, easy to follow and understand, it is crucial for your success that you STICK TO THE PLAN!
This is where your self-discipline will become extremely important. You can’t rely on your emotions to get things done, you must make a personal commitment that you have a plan to follow and that you will do everything in your power to do what you have to do either if you feel like it or not.
Based on my personal experience, following a plan the best possible way is not an easy task, it requires commitment to do what is necessary to do and developing certain attributes like consistency, perseverance, self-discipline, time management, organization, etc., to successfully accomplish daily all the small things that eventually will make you achieve your bigger goal.
Be willing to learn
Either if a fitness professional helped you design a specific plan or you did it yourself, be willing to learn whatever is necessary to achieve your goal.
Taking the previous example, if your specific goal is to decrease body fat %, find articles, videos, blogs, books, talk to other professionals about the topics, find scientifically based materials that can educate you more with techniques and ideas to master your exercises, learn new healthy recipes, manage your time better to make room during your day to exercise daily, etc.
The more you learn about the topic you want to master the more knowledgeable you will become and more passionate about sticking to your plan and achieving what you want.
Find an accountability partner
Do you have a friend or family member that has a similar goal like you? Team up! That way you will help each other succeed and stay accountable of your progress. Maybe there’s a day when you want to skip the gym and he or she will be there to motivate you to go, plus working as a team makes workouts more fun.
Never give up
Now that you have started your fitness journey your first commitment should be with yourself. Remember, you will be the number one person who will benefit from making the positive changes of exercising and eating healthier.
It won’t be an easy journey, you will have a lot obstacle, but believe in yourself and keep going strong along the way, keep pushing, keep grinding and striving to achieve your goal, and if you feel like giving up: Remember WHY you started, come back and read your notes why is it important for you.
There’s no easy way to achieve something great, you must pay a certain price of dedication and perseverance, but rest assure that if you’re doing everything you are supposed to do to achieve your goal, eventually you will get it, and then you will set another goal and so on, because progress is a never-ending process, you can always strive to become a better version of you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
I hope these tips can help you and I would love to work with you!
